SYMPTOMS

An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated. Setupbo.exe

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Microsoft Exchange Directory Service cannot start.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, manually upgrade Microsoft Exchange Server:
  1. Insert the third CD-ROM of the upgrade set in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Start Setup.exe from the Drive:\Exchsrvr\Server\Setup\I386 folder.
  3. After you have upgraded Exchange Server, run Update.exe from the Drive:\Exchsrvr.sp2\Server\Setup\I386 folder to install Exchange Server Service Pack 2 (SP2).
  4. After you restart the server, insert the first CD-ROM of the upgrade set, and then start the Upgrade Wizard. The Upgrade Wizard detects that Exchange Server has been upgraded already; therefore, it passes over this installation point.
