SYMPTOMS

When you move a Web Part to a different location in a solution, recent changes are lost.

RESOLUTION

You must save the Web Part before you move it to a different location within the solution. Moving a Web Part effectively closes and reopens the part.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Open a Digital Dashboard solution in the Microsoft Office XP Development Environment.
  2. On the File menu, point to Project, and then click Add New Item.
  3. Select an HTML Part, and then click Open.
  4. Double-click the new Web Part in the Solution Explorer to open it in the Code and Text Editor, and then type some text.
  5. Find the part in the Solution Explorer, and then drag it to the Resources folder.
  6. Expand the Resources folder, and then double-click the Web Part to reopen it.
Note that the text you typed in the Code and Text Editor window is lost. To resolve the issue, save the part before you move it.
