CAUSE

This problem occurs when you apply the Highlights animation scheme to a slide in PowerPoint, and then expand and collapse an animation on the Custom Animation pane.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps before you expand the animations on the Custom Animation task pane:
  1. Select one of the unexpanded animations on the task pane.
  2. In the Start list, click any option other than On Click. (Reselect On Click in the Start list if you plan to keep this animation setting.)
You can now safely expand the animations in the Custom Animation task pane.
