XCCC: Lotus Notes User Running Outlook Express Cannot Open a Meeting Request (293471)

SYMPTOMS

A Lotus Notes user who is running Microsoft Outlook Express may not be able to open a meeting request. This can occur in the following scenario:
  1. You are using Microsoft Exchange Server, and you send the meeting request to a Lotus Notes user.
  2. The Sensitivity level of the meeting request is set to Normal (the default setting).
  3. The Notes user has configured Notes to use Outlook Express as its default mail handler. When the user attempts to open the .ics attachment, the Lotus vCalendar viewer does not start and the user does not receive the meeting request.

WORKAROUND

Set the Sensitivity of the meeting request to a level other than Normal. To change the Sensitivity level, do one of the following from the Outlook client:
  • Click the Private check box in the lower right corner of the meeting request dialog box. -OR- On the File menu, click Properties. Click either Personal, Private, or Confidential in the Sensitivity list.
Note: The Sensitivity level cannot be changed for a meeting from Outlook Web Access (OWA).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
