The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
This article was previously published under Q293394 SYMPTOMS The installation of Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or
Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 into an existing Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
organization may be unsuccessful, and you may receive the following error
message: Setup failed while installing sub-component Site
Replication Service with error code 0XC1030B22 (please consult the Setup logs
for a detailed description). You may cancel the installation or try the failed
step again. When you examine the Setup log (that is located in the
root of the system drive and is called "Exchange Server Setup Progress.log"),
the following entry may be logged: ScRepSetup
(K:\Admin\Src\Libs\55dsinst\Cdsinst.cxx:3502) error code 0XC1030B22 (2850): The
requested operation failed due to a permissions problem encountered while
accessing a remote directory. Check that your account has permission to perform
this operation. Then, check that the directory service on this server has
permission to set up replication on a remote directory. Both directory services
must be running under the same service account, and the service account must
have the Service Account Admin role on the site object. RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, make sure that the Exchange
Server 5.5 Service account has "Service Account Admin" rights to both the site
and configuration containers in Exchange Server 5.5: Start the Microsoft
Exchange Server Administrator program, expand the organization, and then view
the properties of both the site and configuration containers. When you have
selected a container, you can view the properties of that container. Click the Security tab, and then select the Exchange Server 5.5 Service account as
"Service Account Admin" for each container.MORE INFORMATION The error in the Setup log can be misleading: The Exchange
Server 5.5 Service account needs "Service Account Admin" rights not only to the
site container but also to the configuration container.
