SYMPTOMS

When you run the Cluster Configuration Wizard and attempt to add an additional node to an existing cluster, you may receive the following error message:
An unrecoverable error occurred trying to synchronize the cluster disk configuration.

The network path was not found.

Error ID: 53 (00000035)

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Remote Registry service is not started on the cluster node that sponsors the join request. In a cluster with more than two nodes, the sponsor is the node that owns the quorum device.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, ensure that the Remote Registry service is started on the sponsoring node during the join process.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

The Remote Registry service is used to replicate registry information between the existing node and the node that attempts to join the cluster. If the Remote Registry service is disabled, the node joining the cluster is unable to receive the required registry information from the sponsoring node.
