OL2002: The Formatting Toolbar Can Hide the Send Button on a New Message (293171)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q293171

SYMPTOMS

If you click Send To on the File menu, and then click Mail Recipient to open a new message in either Microsoft Outlook or another Microsoft Office program, such as Microsoft Word, the Send button may not be visible on the message window.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the formatting toolbar might appear over the Send button, which is located on the standard toolbar in the message window.

WORKAROUND

Use the following steps to move the formatting toolbar and other standard toolbar buttons:
  1. With your mouse, hover the arrow over the area where the Send button should be. You will see an area with small horizontal lines and your mouse should change to a four pointer arrow.
  2. Click and hold your left mouse button, and then drag the formatting toolbar down.
  3. Close the message, and then open a new one.
You should see the Send button and other buttons from the standard toolbar unless you make another change.

MORE INFORMATION

Another reason why this behavior may happen is if you inadvertently move the formatting toolbar over the other buttons on the standard toolbar and close the message window. This saves the changes to the registry, which sets the window positions made to the message window. Every time that you open a new message, the toolbar remains hidden.

NOTE: This behavior does not occur when you use Word as your default e-mail editor.

The other reason you may not see the Send button on a message is if you do not have an e-mail account configured.
