OL2002: Outlook Does Not Recognize Address When You Run IM and Add Exchange E-mail Names to Contact List (293074)

This article was previously published under Q293074 SYMPTOMS When you add Exchange e-mail names to a contact list on a
computer that runs Instant Messaging (IM), Outlook does not recognize the
address. This occurs on computers that run Microsoft Windows 95 or 98 or
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. CAUSE This behavior occurs because the IM servers are set up to
look at a different address for the Exchange IM state. WORKAROUND To work around this behavior, do one of the following:
- Install the Active Directory Client Extensions for the
operating system that runs on your computer.
- Type the actual IM e-mail address in the contact list in
MSN Messenger Service, for example user1@im.microsoft.com.

has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
