OL2002: Messages Do Not Display the Name of the Sender in the 'From' Field (293059)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q293059

SYMPTOMS

When you view the From field in a message that you receive, the field may be blank or you may have an entry that does not display information when you click the entry in the From field, and then click Properties.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the required attributes that Outlook 2002 interprets to display the data in the From field are missing or corrupted in the sent message.

It is possible that the e-mail servers that handle the message either stripped out or did not process the message header information correctly, or that the sender altered the header information such that there is not any information in the From field.

MORE INFORMATION

Outlook 2002 relies on the fact that the message header information is correct and in a specific order when a message is received. If this information is missing or incomplete, the From field may be incorrect or blank when you receive the message.
