How to Change the Number of Names That Is Allowed in the Nickname Cache

The system administrators that roll out Microsoft Office or Microsoft Outlook for the first time are usually responsible for changing the number of names that are allowed in the nickname cache. However, individual users can also make this registry setting. In order to have control over how many names are in the nickname cache, you need to add a key to the registry. To do this:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then press ENTER or click OK.
  3. Locate the following registry hive:

    H_KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\microsoft\Office\10.0\outlook\

  4. In the right pane, right-click and click New, and then click to select DWORD Value.
  5. Right-click the new entry, and then type MaxNicknames.
  6. Double-click the new key, and then type the number of maximum nickname entries in the Value Data box .
  7. Exit the registry editor.
