OL2002: Plain Text Message Changes the Display Font to Arial When You Change the Message Options (292975)

SYMPTOMS

When you set message options in a plain text message in Outlook 2002, the font of the message body resets from Courier New to Arial.

CAUSE

The following conditions must be true for this problem to occur:
  1. Courier New is the font that is used for the When composing and reading plain text option.
  2. The Auto-Select encoding for outgoing messages option is enabled. (This option is only available with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5)

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to work around this problem:
  1. Use Microsoft Word as your e-mail editor. -or-

  2. Click to clear the Auto-Select encoding for outgoing messages check box. To locate this option in Outlook 2002, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click International Options under Encoding Options. -or-

  3. Change the default font for plain text messages.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
