OL2002: You Receive a NDR When You Send a Message to an Address that Begins with a Single Quote (292971)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q292971

SYMPTOMS

When you use a single quote to preface an e-mail address in a new message, you receive a non-delivery report (NDR) after you send the message and the recipient never receives the message.

The following is an example of this type of address:

'anyname@microsoft.com

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Outlook 2002 does not consider an address that is formatted with only a single quote to be a valid e-mail address.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, either include a quote at the beginning and the end of the e-mail address, or use no quotes at all when you compose the message.
