Visio2000: Error Message: The Ordinal 6880 Could Not Be Located in the Dynamic Link Library Mfc42.dll (292913)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Visio 2000, you may receive the following error message:
Error - The ordinal 6880 could not be located in the dynamic link library mfc42.dll

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when one of the following is true:
  • The Mfc42.dll file has been corrupted or deleted.

    -or-
  • There were errors in the Visio installation.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, re-install Microsoft Visio 2000. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Log on to Microsoft Windows using an administrator account.
  2. Quit all running programs and temporarily turn off any antivirus software.
  3. Insert your Microsoft Visio 2000 CD into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. If the Installer starts automatically, click Exit to quit.
  4. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following folder on the CD:

    \Install\bin\sp\SPCore

  5. Right-click the Spcore.msi file, and then click Uninstall.
  6. After the file is removed, right-click the Spcore.msi file and then click Install.
  7. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes. If you are not prompted, restart the computer.
