OL2002: Received Messages Are Missing Content (292865)

SYMPTOMS

When you receive a message from an Outlook 2002 user in Microsoft Outlook Rich Text format that contains comments or other elements that were composed with Microsoft Word 2002, those elements may not be visible when you open the message. Additionally, the Information Bar above the message contains the following message:

This message contains formatting that is best viewed with Microsoft Word. Click here to display in Word.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because you do not have Word 2002 installed and the message format cannot be interpreted.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, upgrade your computer to Word 2002, or use the features that are available in the Outlook editor instead of using Word when you compose the message to the recipient. Use the following steps to change your e-mail editor from Word:
  1. In Outlook, click Options on the Tools menu.
  2. Click the Mail Format tab.
  3. Click to clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box, and then click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
