SYMPTOMS

If you add an auxiliary class or attribute to the TOP Active Directory class, the following error occurs:
The change was rejected by the directory service.

CAUSE

No changes are allowed to the Active Directory Class TOP.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Start the Active Directory Schema Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in.
  2. Under Classes, select TOP, and then view its Properties.
  3. On the Relationship tab, add an auxiliary class. Notice that when you click Apply, the error message noted in the "Symptoms" section appears.
  4. On the Attributes tab, try to add an attribute to Optional. Notice that when you click Apply the error occurs.
