SUMMARY

This article describes how to manually install or remove the Exchange 2000 Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

Note To complete the steps in this article, Exchange must already be installed.

In some situations, such as troubleshooting installation issues, you may have to manually install or remove the Exchange MMC. To do so, copy the necessary dynamic-link library (DLL) from the Exchange CD-ROM, and then register that DLL in Microsoft Windows 2000. The Exchange MMC components depend upon the Exadmin.dll file that is located in the X:\Exchsrvr60\Setup\I386\Exchange\Bin folder, where X is the location of the Exchange 2000 installation media.

To install or replace this DLL:
  1. Stop all Exchange Server services:
    1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Services.
    3. Click each Exchange Server service, click Action, and then click Stop.
    4. Close the Services windows.

      Note You must restart the Exchange Server services after you install or remove the DLL.

  2. Copy the Exadmin.dll from the Exchange Server installation media to the Exchsrvr\Bin folder; overwrite the existing file if necessary.

    By default, the Exchsrvr\Bin folder is located in C:\Program Files.
  3. Run the following command from a command prompt within the Bin folder to register the DLL:

    regsvr32 exadmin.dll

    The typical response to this command is:

    DllRegisterServer in exadmin.dll succeeded.

    To remove the Exchange 2000, run the following command from within the bin folder to unregister the DLL:

    regsvr32 /u exadmin.dll

    The typical response to this command is:

    DllUnregisterServer in exadmin.dll succeeded.
