FP2002: Error Message with Search Component in SharePoint Team Services: No Records Were Found Matching Your Query (292691)

The information in this article applies to:

  • SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft

This article was previously published under Q292691

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Search component in a web based on SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft, you may receive no results, and the following error message appears:
No records were found matching your query.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the subweb was created from a virtual directory. When you create a web based on SharePoint Team Services from a virtual directory, the search proxy does not automatically add the virtual directory to its catalog.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, manually add the virtual directory to OWS_VRoot_1. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Services Manager for Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS):
    1. Click Start and then point to Programs.
    2. Point to Administrative Tools.
    3. Point to Internet Services Manager.
  2. Expand the Microsoft SharePoint Search Proxy virtual server.
  3. Right-click OWS_VRoot_1, select New, and then click Virtual Directory.
  4. Name the new virtual directory after the existing virtual directory, and then point it to the physical folder that contains the files.

For example, if you have a virtual directory named TEST that points to the C:\TEST folder, name the new virtual directory under the OWS_VRoot_1 folder TEST, and then point it to the C:\TEST folder as well.
  5. Quit and then restart IIS:
    1. Open a command prompt.
    2. Type IISRESET, and then press ENTER.
    3. Close the command prompt after IIS restarts.
  6. Stop and restart Indexing service.
The document should now be found when you run the search on the subweb.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
