The information in this article applies to:

  • FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions from Microsoft
  • SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft

This article was previously published under Q292689

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to copy a Microsoft Network (MSN) Web folder to a Web folder on a server running SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft, you receive the following Confirm File Replace dialog box:

This folder already contains a file named "xxx".

Would you like to replace the existing file

with this one?

0 Bytes

date and time

If you click Yes, or Yes to All, a "Copying" message appears, but the folder is not copied.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because you are trying to copy a Web folder, which is only a shortcut to a location. If you open a Web folder, you can copy any files or folders in the Web folder.

MORE INFORMATION

When you try to copy a Web folder, the folder itself is not copied, but a shortcut to that Web folder is created.

When you try to copy a Web folder and paste it into another Web folder, you are trying to place a shortcut to a Web folder into another Web folder, and the attempt is unsuccessful.
