Changing Dial-Up Adapter TCP/IP Settings Changes Ethernet Adapter TCP/IP Settings (292635)

SYMPTOMS

When you view the DNS Configuration tab for the TCP/IP (Ethernet Adapter), you may notice that DNS has been enabled, even though you did not manually enable DNS for the Ethernet adapter.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you have enabled DNS for the TCP/IP (Dial-Up Adapter). The properties for the TCP/IP (Ethernet Adapter) automatically inherit the DNS properties of the TCP/IP (Dial-Up Adapter).

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

If your computer has both a dial-up adapter and an Ethernet adapter installed, if you view the properties of TCP/IP (Dial-Up Adapter) and enable DNS, and enter information for host, domain and other settings, TCP/IP (Ethernet Adapter) properties will also reflect that DNS is enabled on the adapter and the settings that have been applied to the TCP/IP (Dial-Up Adapter) are also present.
