Office Shortcut Bar is not displayed after you install Office 2000 or Office XP (292571)

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.


To resolve this issue, delete the Office Shortcut Bar folder listings from the Windows registry and delete Msoffice.exe from the computer. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Quit all Office programs.
2. Click Start and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type regedit and then click OK.
4. Click to expand the following subkey in the registry:For Microsoft Office XP:

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Shortcut Bar

   For Microsoft Office 2000:

   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Shortcut Bar

5. On the Edit menu, click Rename.
6. In the name box, type old shortcut bar, and then press ENTER.
7. Quit the Registry Editor.
8. Search for and delete all copies of Msoffice.exe from the computer. To do this, follow these steps.In Microsoft Windows XP:
   
   
   1. Click Start and then click Search.
   2. In the All or part of the file name box, type msoffice.exe.
   3. In the Look in list, click My Computer, and then click Search.
   4. In the Search Results pane, right-click Msoffice.exe. On the shortcut menu, click Delete, and then click Yes in the Confirm File Delete message.
   5. Repeat step d for every listing of Msoffice.exe that appears.
   In Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me):
   
   
   1. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
   2. In the Search for files or folders named box, type msoffice.exe.
   3. In the Look in list, click My Computer, and then click Search Now.
   4. In the Search Results pane, right-click Msoffice.exe. On the shortcut menu, click Delete, and then click Yes in the Confirm File Delete message.
   5. Repeat step d for every listing of Msoffice.exe that appears.
   In Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0:
   
   
   1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
   2. In the Named box, type msoffice.exe.
   3. In the Look in list, click My Computer, and then click Find Now.
   4. In the search results list, right-click Msoffice.exe. On the shortcut menu, click Delete, and then click Yes in the confirmation message.
   5. Repeat step d for every listing of Msoffice.exe that appears.
9. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Startup, and then right-click Microsoft Office.
10. On the shortcut menu, click Delete.
11. In the Confirm Delete message, click Yes.
12. Reinstall Microsoft Office, and then restart the computer.
13. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar.

Microsoft Office installs and configures the Office Shortcut Bar.
