Microsoft Windows XP includes Windows Installer version 2.0. Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me) includes Windows Installer version 1.2. Microsoft Windows 2000 includes Windows Installer version 1.1.

Windows Installer is not included in Microsoft Windows 95, in Microsoft Windows 98, in Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), or in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. To run Windows Installer installation packages on these Windows operating systems, you must first install the Windows Installer engine.
