Client-Side Caching May Not Resolve Version Conflicts If the Share Is a Root Folder (292506)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q292506 SYMPTOMS
If you set up client-side caching with a shared root drive and make changes to synchronized files in both the server and the workstation versions of the files while you are disconnected from the network, any files that have been modified on both the server and the client will be overwritten by the server version without prompting when the workstation reconnects to the network and synchronizes with the share. This affects files with either the hidden or system attributes set. The expected behavior would be to receive a dialog box in which you can resolve the conflict and decide which version of the file to keep.
CAUSE
This behavior was designed to prevent the synchronization of hidden and system folders (such as Recycle Bin and System Volume Information) that are typically located in the root folder.
