OFFXP: Setup Detects Office XP Running When You Attempt to Install Office XP (292497)

SYMPTOMS

After you uninstall a pre-release version of Office XP, and then attempt to install the released version Office XP, you receive a message similar to the following:
Setup has determined that the following program(s) are running.

Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage

Setup recommends closing these programs during installation.

CAUSE

This problem occurs in the following situation:
  1. You install a pre-release version of Office XP on Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.
  2. You install the Alternative User Input feature from the pre-release version of Microsoft Office XP.
  3. You uninstall the pre-release version of Office XP.
  4. You attempt to install the Alternative User Input feature from the released version of Office XP.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, in the Running Programs dialog box, click Ignore. After Office XP Setup finishes, restart the computer when prompted.

MORE INFORMATION

The Alternative User Input feature installs the Text Services control panel. The Text Services control panel is a system component and is not removed when you uninstall Office XP. When the released version of Office XP is installed, Setup is unable to update the currently running Text Services control panel service.
