XL2002: You Are Unable to Dismiss the "Number Must Be Between -90 and 90" Error Message (292481)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you specify the orientation of text, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
The number must be between -90 and 90. Try again by entering a number in this range.
When you click OK, the error message reappears.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
  • You use the Find and Replace dialog box.

    -and-
  • You specify to find or replace an item based on formatting.

    -and-
  • You specify a text orientation of less than -90 or more than +90 degrees.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Hold Down the ESCAPE Key

  • Press and hold down the ESCAPE key for about three seconds and the error message will be cleared.

Method 2: Save Other Workbooks and Quit Excel

NOTE: When you use this method, any work not saved in the active workbook is lost.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. For every other workbook open in Excel, click the appropriate Excel icon on the taskbar, and then click Save on the File menu.
  2. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to show the Close Program or Task Manager dialog box.
  3. Click Microsoft Excel in the program or task list, and then click End Task.
  4. Press ESC to close the dialog box.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
