This article was previously published under Q292470 SYMPTOMS
When you switch from Dictation mode to Voice Command mode in Microsoft Excel, the contents of the active cell may be deleted.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true:
- You are using the Dictation feature.
-and- - You place the insertion point in a cell.
-and- - You say "Voice Command".
The spoken words are initially translated as dictated text until Excel correctly interprets them as a command to change to Voice Command mode. This behavior causes the active cell contents to be deleted (overwritten).
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, press ESCAPE. The cell contents are restored.
