FIX: xp_startmail Does Not Start Default Profile on Nondefault Instance (292237)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start SQL Mail with the default profile using xp_startmail, the following error message may be returned:
Server: Msg 18024, Level 16, State 1, Line 0
xp_startmail: failed with operating system error 2
This occurs only on nondefault instances when the profile name is not specified as a parameter.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

Specify the profile name as a parameter:
xp_startmail 'valid profilename'
				

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
