Server log on and logoff processes are excessively slow or impossible in Word 2002 (292165)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q292165 SYMPTOMS As a roaming user, it may take you an excessively long time
to log on or log off a server. Occasionally, the server logon and logoff
processes may even become impossible. CAUSE This behavior can occur because Microsoft Word AutoRecover
files are stored in the Application Data\Microsoft\Word folder. This folder
roams with the user profile, and if it gets very large, its size can cause the
logon or logoff process to become very slow. If the folder size exceeds the
allotted size limit, the server logon and logoff processes become impossible.
WORKAROUND To work around this issue, delete any unneeded AutoRecover
files from the Application Data\Microsoft\Word folder. To delete a file, browse
to the file in Windows Explorer, right-click the file, and then click Delete.
