Word 2000 quits when you use the Web Page Wizard on a computer that has Word 2002 installed (292156)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use the Microsoft Word 2000 Web Page Wizard, Word may quit (crashes), and then you receive the following error message:
Winword has caused an error in <unknown>. Winword will now close.

If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You install Word 2000.

    -and-
  • You install Microsoft Word 2002 and choose to keep Word 2000 installed on the computer.

    -and-
  • You start Word 2000 and use the Web Page Wizard.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use the Word 2002 Web Page Wizard. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Word 2002.
  2. On the File menu, click New.
  3. In the New Document task pane, click General Templates.
  4. In the Templates dialog box, click the Web Pages tab.
  5. Click Web Page Wizard, and then click OK.
