WD2002: Word Stops Responding When You Click Refresh in Recipients Dialog Box (292148)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to refresh the Mail Merge Recipients list in Microsoft Word, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
To view the details of the error signature, click the link in To see what data this error report contains, click here in the error dialog box. The following error signature appears:

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when all of the following conditions are true:
  • The source of the recipient list is a Microsoft Excel workbook.

    -and-
  • While the Mail Merge Recipients dialog box is open, you edit the source of the list in Excel.

    -and-
  • After you edit the list in Excel, you save and close the workbook.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, close the Mail Merge Recipients dialog box in Word before you edit the source workbook in Excel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
