This article was previously published under Q292137

SYMPTOMS

When you create a Web page with an attached template that is stored on a mapped network drive, and then save that Web page as a Word document, the path to the template may be lost.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions are true:
  • You create a Word document and attach a template to the document.

    -and-
  • The template is stored on a mapped network drive by using a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path. (For example: \\servername\foldername.)

    -and-
  • The document is saved as a Web page (and then closed).

    -and-
  • The document is then saved as a Word document, or in any format that supports templates, such as Rich Text Format (RTF).

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, reattach the template. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Templates and Add-Ins.
  2. Click Attach, and then browse to select the template that you want to attach.
  3. Click Open, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
