WD2002: PDF File Is Larger When Created From Word 2002 (292110)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2002

This article was previously published under Q292110

SYMPTOMS

When you use Adobe Acrobat Distiller to convert a Microsoft Word document into PDF format, the PDF file created from a Word 2002 document is significantly larger than the PDF file created from the same document in Word 2000 format.

CAUSE

The difference in size is due to the pictures that are inserted in the Word document. Microsoft Word 2002 uses a higher resolution when printing the pictures (than in earlier versions of Word), which in turn, creates a larger output file when it is converted to PDF format. If you delete the pictures from the document, then the PDF file sizes are the same.
