Error message when you use the "Edit with Microsoft Word" command (292103)

This article was previously published under Q292103 SYMPTOMS When you open a document in Microsoft Internet Explorer,
and then try to edit the document with Microsoft Office Word by clicking Edit
with Microsoft Word on the Internet Explorer File menu, you receive the following error message:
The function you are attempting to run contains macros
or content that requires macro language support. When this software was
installed, you (or your administrator) chose not to install support for macros
or controls. CAUSE This behavior can occur if both the following conditions
are true:
- Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) has not been
installed on your computer.
- The document that you are trying to open is already open in
Word.
WORKAROUND To work around this issue, quit all instances of Word, and
then do one of the following:
- With the document open in Internet Explorer, click
Edit with Microsoft Word on the Internet Explorer File menu.
- Start Word, and then open the document.
