Incorrect symbol is pasted into "Find what" box in Word (292098)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Word 2003
- Microsoft Word 2002
This article was previously published under Q292098 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Office Word, when you paste a symbol into the Find what box in the Find and Replace dialog box, the pasted symbol is different than the symbol that you copied.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when you insert a symbol from the TrueType font category. When you copy a symbol and then paste it into the Find what box in the Find and Replace dialog box, the Find what box views the symbol as Unicode instead of as a Symbol font.
NOTE: If you search with the pasted symbol, the search results still return the symbol that you originally copied.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, insert a similar symbol from a different font. For example symbols copied from the Arial font are pasted into the Find what box as the same symbol that you copied.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
