This article was previously published under Q292083 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Word 2002, the current file location does not appear in the Modify Location dialog box when you attempt to modify the location of a file type (on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Modify on the File Locations tab).
This behavior is different from that of Microsoft Word 2000.
CAUSE
Microsoft changed the behavior of the Modify Location dialog box in Word 2002 to increase the security of your important Word file locations. By not displaying the file type location by default, the likelihood that you may accidentally change the location of your Word file types is greatly decreased.
WORKAROUND
You can still change the location in which Word stores your files. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- In the Options dialog box, click the File Locations tab.
- In the File locations box, click the file type whose location you want to change (for example, Documents).
- Click Modify.
- In the Modify Location dialog box, browse to the folder that you want, or click Create New Folder to create a new folder.
- Click the folder that you want, and then click OK.
- Note the new location in the File locations box.
