OFF2000: Mssp3en.lex and Mssp3ena.lex Are Replaced When You Install Office 2000 Proofing Tools (292082)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) with MultiLanguage Pack Service Release 1 (SR-1)
This article was previously published under Q292082 SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft Office 2000 Proofing Tools in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1), the current versions of the following files
Filename Date Time
------------------------------------------
mssp3en.lex 11/22/99 6:57:42 PM
mssp3ena.lex 10/17/98 1:43:56 AM
are replaced with the following earlier versions:
Filename Date Time
------------------------------------------
mssp3en.lex 3/3/99 2:47:32 PM
mssp3ena.lex 10/17/98 1:43:56 AM
NOTE: Even though the date for mssp3ena.lex appears to be the same in both instances, the version that is included with Office 2000 SR-1 is different from the version that replaces it when you install Office 2000 Proofing Tools. There is an error in the date stamp for the newer file (the version in the upper table in this section). The date stamp for this file should be 11/22/99 6:57:42 PM, the same as for the version of mssp3en.lex that the file is paired with.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the Microsoft Windows Installer looks only at file versions, not created or modified dates, when determining whether or not to replace an existing file. The .lex files are not assigned a version number, and, as a result, the newer files are overwritten by older files during the Office 2000 Proofing Tools installation.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, reinstall Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- In the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, click Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1, and then click Change.
- In the Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Repair Office.
- In the Reinstall or Repair Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 dialog box, click Reinstall Office, and then click Finish. Follow the on-screen instructions.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
