The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2002

This article was previously published under Q292081

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word 2002, after you click to clear the Check grammar check box in the Spelling and Grammar dialog box, the wavy green underlining that is displayed beneath grammatically incorrect text remains in the document.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the Check grammar as you type check box is selected on the Spelling & Grammar tab in the Options dialog box.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue and hide the wavy green underlining that appears beneath grammatically incorrect text, follow these steps:
  1. Start Word 2002.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Spelling & Grammar tab.
  3. Under Grammar, click to clear the Check grammar as you type check box, and then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION

When you clear the Check grammar check box in the Spelling and Grammar: Language dialog box (on the Tools menu, click Spelling and Grammar), the Check grammar with spelling check box on the Spelling & Grammar tab in the Options dialog box is also cleared.

Because the Check grammar as you type check box remains selected on the Spelling & Grammar tab in the Options dialog box, the wavy green underlining remains beneath the grammatically incorrect text in the document. For more information about grammar checking, click Microsoft Word Help on the Help menu, type check grammar in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topics returned.
