WD2002: Text Is Missing When You View a Document in Web Page Preview (292068)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q292068 SYMPTOMS
When you use the Web Page Preview command to view a Microsoft Word document, some of the lines of text at the bottom of the document may not be displayed as expected.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if all of the following conditions are true:
- You create a document in Print Layout view.
-and- - You insert an AutoShape into the document.
-and- - You fill the inserted AutoShape with text.
-and- - You view the document in Web Layout view or by using the Web Page Preview command; or you save the document as a Web page and view it from within a Web browser.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, use Web Layout view in Word to create any document that you want to view from within a Web browser.
To switch to Web Layout view, click Web Layout on the View menu.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, configure AutoShapes to automatically resize to fit the text in your document. To do this, follow these steps:
- In Word, switch to the document that contains the AutoShape with the missing text.
- Double-click the text box that is automatically added when you use the Add Text command in an AutoShape.
This displays the Format AutoShape dialog box. - In the Format AutoShape dialog box, click the Text Box tab, click to select the Resize AutoShape to fit text check box, and then click OK.
MORE INFORMATION
A Web browser renders text by using a slightly different character- and line spacing-protocol than do the Normal and Print Layout views in Word. For this reason, text that fills an AutoShape may appear to be cropped when the document is viewed in a Web browser.
