FIX: New Member Wizard 0x80070057 Error May Indicate NLB Misconfiguration (292066)

If you run the Application Center 2000 Add Cluster Member Wizard to add a server to a cluster, after you click finish, the Wizard may fail and display the error message:
0x80070057
One or more parameters or arguments are incorrect.
The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)
Note that the error message does not identify the specific problem that you need to correct.
CAUSE
Application Center 2000 returns this general error message instead a more descriptive message indicating the actual source of the problem.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, upgrade to Application Center 2000 Service Pack (SP) 1. For additional information, click the article number below

Workaround
Check the static IP addresses assigned to your front-end network interface card (NIC) and make sure that you have the same IP subnet mask as you have on the cluster controller's front-end NIC and that the static IP address (if any) assigned to the front-end NIC does not match any of the IP addresses assigned to the cluster controller's front-end NIC.
You must not assign any static IP addresses to the front-end NIC on a server that you intend to add to this cluster or you must recreate the cluster with at least two static IP addresses on the front-end NIC of the cluster controller.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This bug was corrected in Application Center 2000 Service Pack (SP) 1.
