SYMPTOMS

After you start your computer with a CardBus adapter in a Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) slot and then remove the CardBus adapter, 16-bit PCMCIA devices you insert into the PCMCIA slot and that require an Interrupt Request (IRQ) may not work. The 16-bit PCMCIA device may be unable to obtain an IRQ, and Windows may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This problem can occur because the Cbss.vxd Virtual Device Driver may be unable to correctly detect IRQs while a CardBus adapter is installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, upgrade to Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me).

STATUS
