Unregistered Fltrsnk1.dll Starts with Inetinfo.exe (292013)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000

This article was previously published under Q292013

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Regserv32 utility on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer to manually unregister Fltrsnk1.dll, the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) message screener (SMTP Filter sink) does not delete the binding to the SMTP service. Also, the message screener module may continue to start with Inetinfo.exe after you unregister Fltrsnk1.dll by using the regsvr32 /u fltrsnk1.dll command.

Note that you can prevent Fltrsnk1.dll from starting if you delete or move the file. When you uninstall Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server, Fltrsnk1.dll is deleted.

CAUSE

This issue is caused by a problem in the code that unregisters Fltrsnk1.dll.

MORE INFORMATION

NOTE: If you are saving a hotfix locally, please be sure to refresh it from the Hotfix servers.

NOTE: Although the above note should prevent this, you may see that three redundant values were added to the registry. These will need to be fixed in order for IIS to work properly. For more information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
