Reinstallation of Mobile Information Server Does Not Set Auxiliary Domain Information in Active Directory (291945)

When you use the Add/Remove Programs tool to remove Mobile Information Server, and then reinstall Mobile Information Server, you are prompted to enter an auxiliary domain topology. However, if the information you enter is different from the original installation (the information already present in Active Directory), Setup does not apply the new settings.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because it is not possible to change domain topologies after Mobile Information Server has been introduced into an Active Directory forest.
WORKAROUND
To resolve this issue, configure the Mobile Information Server installation so that the settings match the settings in the original installation. You can also completely remove Mobile Information Server from the forest (and manually remove all Active Directory information). When you complete this procedure, and then install Mobile Information Server again, the new installation correctly applies new topology settings.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
