The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server

This article was previously published under Q291861

SYMPTOMS

When a user attempts to log on as an authenticated user to schedule a conference by using the Web Conferencing Scheduler, the user may receive the following error message:
The Exchange Conferencing Service encountered a server error.

Please try the following:

* Contact your system administrator.

Session variables Error #80070005: Problems initializing session variables(OK, 0, 0, 0, 0) Microsoft Exchange 2000 Conferencing Server.

CAUSE

This error is displayed when the domain name is not included in the user credentials.

By default, Windows Integrated Authentication, such as NTLM or Kerberos, is enabled on the Conferencing virtual directory in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). If the browser supports Windows Integrated Authentication, it automatically sends the user's domain credentials when the user is logged on to the network. Therefore, if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, and then click the Log On hyperlink in Web Scheduler, the user's credentials are accepted, and the process occurs transparently.

Because Netscape does not support Windows Integrated Authentication, Netscape users need to authenticate against IIS by using Basic Clear Text Authentication.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, the user has to enter the information in the following manner:

Username: Domain\Username
Password: Password

Note: The password is case-sensitive.
