PIP2001: Invalid Page Fault Errors After Installing UpdateHP.exe Patch (291825)

SYMPTOMS

If you installed the UpdateHP.exe patch, you may experience one of the following error messages:
PIP caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL.
PIP caused an invalid page fault in module MFC42.DLL.
PIP caused an invalid page fault in module PISERVR5.DLL.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if you have a Hewlett-Packard (HP) PhotoSmart 1100 printer, and the drivers are out of date.

RESOLUTION

Uninstall the HP printer software, remove the printer from the Printers folder, and then download and install the latest driver version. To do this, follow these steps:

Uninstall the HP Printer Software

  1. Download the file [ps255xx.exe], then locate those files in the directory C:\Temp\P1100 or the directory you chose to download them into.
  2. Double-click on file to uncompress within the 1100 directory.

    NOTE: Begin by removing previous versions of the P1100/xi printer software. To uninstall the printer software, you must use this method:
    • Locate the directory you downloaded the Web driver into, default is C:\Temp\P1100.
    • Double-click Setup.exe from within this C:\Temp\P1100 directory.
    • Choose "Remove the Photosmart P1100 series software".
    Before proceeding with the Web file installation, it is important there is NO CD-ROM inserted in your CD Drive while doing this software update.

Remove the HP 1100 Printer from the Printers Folder

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. Select the HP Printer icon, and then press DELETE.
  3. If you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes. If you are prompted to delete unnecessary files, click Yes.

Download Updated Drivers for the HP PhotoSmart 1100

You can download the latest revised drivers from the Hewlett-Packard Web site:

NOTE: Install a driver with the revision number of 2.2 or higher.
