Outlook locks your account because of a Directory Service referral with Exchange 2000 Server (291598)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook 2000, when used with:
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows 98
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
- Microsoft Outlook 2002
This article was previously published under Q291598 SYMPTOMSMicrosoft Outlook 2002 or Microsoft Outlook 2000 may cause your account to lock if the
following conditions are true:
- You use Outlook with Microsoft Exchange 2000
Server.
- The Logon Network Security setting is set to None.
- You use Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows
Millennium Edition, and you are currently logging on the domain.
- You can log on to Exchange 2000 Server.
- You entered the wrong password.
WORKAROUND To work around this behavior, increase the number of
unsuccessful logons to six or higher, and then remove RPC bindings that are not
needed from the Exchange 2000 Server. For example, you can remove the Named
Pipe support if no clients require Named Pipes.
NOTE: Network security is not reduced if you use a password that
includes at least seven characters, symbols, and uppercase and lower case
letters and a higher number of logons that do not work.
