  • Microsoft Office XP Developer

This article was previously published under Q291578

SYMPTOMS

Creating a new Dashboard project for Microsoft Exchange 2000 or Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server can take up to two minutes and can make the Microsoft Development Environment unresponsive and appear to hang.

CAUSE

Digital Dashboards employ a number of files that need to be copied to the server for the new project. The actual time it takes to create the Dashboard project depends on many factors including:
  • The speed of the client computer.
  • The speed of the server.
  • The speed of the network and amount of network traffic.

Improving any one of these three areas could decrease the time that it takes to create a new project.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  2. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Project.
  3. In the New Project dialog box, click Dashboard Project, and then type a valid URL to an Exchange 2000 or SharePoint Portal Server Web site. Click OK to make the new project.
Note that the Microsoft Development Environment is unresponsive for a while as the Dashboard factory is copied to the server.
