SUMMARY

You may encounter erratic behavior when you make the pointer speed higher than the default speed on some mice and touchpad devices.

MORE INFORMATION

Some touchpad and external mouse devices are very sensitive. When you increase the tracking speed in the muse tool in Control Panel, you may encounter erratic behavior as you move the mouse pointer. You can control this in the operating system by adjusting the sensitivity of the mouse in Control Panel.

To reset the mouse tracking option:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Mouse, and then click the Pointer Options tab.
  3. Under Pointer Speed, adjust the speed of the mouse until the movement that you want is customized and not erratic.
  4. Click OK.
NOTE: Always verify that the mouse pad is clean before you make any software or hardware adjustments.

NOTE: Erratic mouse behaviour may be due to video card hardware acceleration. Lowering the hardware acceleration may correct erratic mouse pointer behaviour (such as a mouse pointer disappearing in text boxes or over text). This can be accessed under Display properties, Settings, Advanced, Troubleshooting.
