SYMPTOMS
If you have the In folders other than the Inbox, save replies with original message option selected and you reply to messages in your Inbox, the reply is saved in your Inbox and not your Sent Items folder.
CAUSE
This problem only occurs with Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) and Hotmail accounts.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
Replies that are sent from the IMAP Inbox are saved in your Inbox, but are not saved in the Sent Items folder, while replies sent from the Hotmail Inbox are saved in both the Inbox and the Sent Items folders.
To save replies with the original message in Outlook, click Options on the Tools menu, click E-mail Options, and then click Advanced E-mail Options to set the In folders other than the Inbox option.
The option to save replies in other folders is honored by other e-mail services, such as Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) or Microsoft Exchange. This problem is unique to the way IMAP and Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) e-mail services function.
