HTTP Headers Are Truncated or Incomplete When You Access a Site Through Proxy Server (291435)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0

This article was previously published under Q291435

SYMPTOMS

When you access a site through Proxy Server 2.0, you may encounter incomplete or truncated headers in the response. This may manifest as missing cookies or as cookies that are visible as content in the browser.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Proxy Server 2.0 has a limit of approximately 3.5 kb for the header portion of the response. Any cookies or headers that exceed this size are effectively treated as content and are forwarded to the browser as such.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, make sure that the cookies/headers combination does not exceed 3.5 kb.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem.
