OL2002: Controls Do Not Copy or Paste Correctly in Design Mode (291416)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q291416

SYMPTOMS

After copying and pasting a group of controls, you find that the layout of the controls may not be preserved and some of the control properties were not replicated properly.

CAUSE

The controls were on a container control, such as a MultiPage or Frame control.

RESOLUTION

If you are using a mail or post form and want to copy the controls from the Compose page to the Read page, the following workaround will create a Read page that matches the Compose page.

IMPORTANT: The following steps will discard any customizations you have made to the Read page of the form.
  1. Make sure the form is in design mode and that you are on the Compose page.
  2. On the Form menu, click to turn off Separate Read Layout (the command is not checked). When prompted to discard any changes to the Read page, click Yes.
  3. On the Form menu, click to turn on Separate Read Layout (the command is checked).
If you now click the Form menu and then click Edit Read Page, you will see that the Read page is now a copy of the Compose page.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem may not reproduce consistently with a simple custom form, but complex forms with many controls reproduce this problem consistently. In some cases after the controls are pasted, they will be bound to different fields.
