OFFXPDEV: modWeb Virtual Directory Icon Is Shown as Error in Internet Services Manager (291403)

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade the Workflow Server Components from Microsoft Office 2000 Developer to Microsoft Office XP Developer, the modWeb virtual directory icon is shown as Error in the Internet Services Manager.

CAUSE

The error icon occurs because the file system folder was deleted during the uninstall of the Microsoft Office 2000 Developer Access Workflow Designer Server components, but the virtual directory was not removed from Internet Services Manager. When the virtual directory is re-created during Microsoft Office XP Developer installation, the error icon is not replaced by Internet Services Manager until you start and stop the Internet Services Manager.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, right-click the local server node, and then click Restart IIS. When the Stop/Start/Reboot dialog box opens, click Restart Internet Services on <ServerName>, and then click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. On a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computer that has the Access Workflow Designer Server from Microsoft Office 2000 installed, open Control Panel, and then double-click Add\Remove Programs.
  2. Click Microsoft Access Workflow Designer Server, click Change/Remove, and then remove all components.
  3. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Services Manager.
  4. Expand the * <Server Name> node, and then the Default Web Site node.
  5. Click the modWeb node. Note that you receive the following error message:
    Unable to enumerate files and directories because the following error occurred:
    The system cannot find the path specified.
  6. Install Microsoft Office XP, and then install Microsoft Office XP Developer, making sure that Workflow Server is installed.
  7. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Services Manager.
  8. Expand the * <Server Name> node, and then the Default Web Site node.

    Note that the modWeb virtual directory's icon is shown as Error.
